HeritageQuest® Online is a comprehensive treasury of American genealogical sources that are rich in unique primary sources, local and family histories, and finding aids with some dating back to the 1700s.
This database is provided by the library with home access using a valid Portsmouth Public Library card.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Great Flood of 1937. The library will be posting the front page of the newspaper printed during this disaster. For further reading or information, please visit the Local History Department.

Alberta Parker discusses the death of her mother, Bessie Tomlin, during the 1937 flood. She also tells the story of how she was rescued from a capsized boat during the flood. Alberta's story is the subject for one of the Portsmouth Floodwall murals and images of the painting are shown throughout the movie.
